Reading and driving at the same time? Sort of…

Eeek! Where did summer go?

Since I started working in Tukwila and spending so much time on the road, I’ve missed my reading time. I used to read several books a week and now it takes me several weeks to read a book. And sometimes I feel almost desperate to read a good book.

I don’t know what took me so long, but I finally picked up a couple of books on CD at the library to listen to in the car. (I’m in my car 1.5 to 2.5 hours a day…)  I cannot tell you how much fun I am having! I started with Ron Reagan’s book, My Father at 100.  Loved it!  It was read by Ron and even though there were some politics in there, it wasn’t a political story. It was a story about a son trying to get to know the enigmatic father he loved. I was a little sad when it ended.

Then tomorrow I will be finishing Game Change written by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin. It’s all about the presidential race in 2008 – incredible behind-the-scenes stories about Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin. I’m not a huge political follower or fan, but I enjoy reading biographies and finding out more about who people really are and what they think.  It’s been a fascinating “read.” But also a little frightening…you couldn’t pay me enough to be a politician or to work for one!

Lest you think I’m really cerebral, my next book on CD is Betrayal, a novel by a favorite author, John Lescroart. This will be a good thriller – murder, courtrooms…can’t wait!

Listening to the books has really helped the commute go quickly; sometimes I don’t even notice the traffic. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad…maybe a little of both!
